So, went to the Luna is Honey (Joshua, singer, was the homey that painted our rad new bass drum cover) CD release partaay at Big Fish in Glendale. This is what you would call a locals bar...they don't make em like this in Silverlake, Hollywood, Echo Park, K-town, Downtown etc...It felt as though I was transformed to Northern MN, except with Armenians. It was a true dive with old man regulars and cheap ass drinks. $8.50 for a big ass picture of beer! That's nutty cheap for L.A. standards. Anyway, E & E opened, then Cobalt Cranes, then Luna finished it off. They did a Prince song as a closer,,,funny..and this old black mc karaoke guy sang along...missed getting his photo though.
Here is the new Signals vid too. This song is super good live, even minus the dogs.
Oh, and check the Lizard that was in our place today! It was big...we managed to shew it out. There is pic of Dana and Nathan as well, with fishies above their heads.
So, I went to the L'Keg benefit show yesterday after work. So fun! Lot of peeps and familiar faces. L'Keg recently burned up, not totally but got messed up. There was a Haitian restaurant next door that went up and it spread to L'Keg. Haiti havin some hard times I guess. Some bad Voodoo. The show was in a backyard around Alvarado and the 101. Blue Jungle, Audacity, DOS (Mike Watt and his ex-wife former Black Flag bassist Kira Roessler) and Signals played. I missed Blue Jungle and Signals because of work but got there to see Mike Watt and Audacity. Audacity was good, I have not seen them in a while. We played with them a bunch about a year ago. It was cool talking to Mike Watt, I told him how I saw him at 1st Ave in Minneapolis in 95' when he played bass for Foo Fighters before the Foo Fighters even had an album out. It was him on bass, Pat Smear (Germs) on guitar, Eddie Vedder on guitar, Dave Grohl on guitar and vox, and the drummer from Sunny Day Real Estate on drums. Crazy line-up. The crowd was a buzz. Mike Watt was on his Bull Hog or Tugboat? album tour with the pre-Foo Fighters opening. Pretty epic. Anyway, the show was really fun, got drunk, went to Little Tokyo with my buds Scott and Dina and drank more then went to Hot Tub Time Machine with them and Ruiko. Awesome Saturday! The weather was insane too, today looks dope as well! Here are some pice. Oh, and talked with Jon from Signals and we have some benefit shows in the works. Watch for it!! And yes, that is Keith Morris from the Circle Jerks in the background of Audacity.
So, went to see Yacht the other night with my long time bud Elliot. Thanks to FYF Sean Carlson for getting me on the press list to take photos. A bunch of bands played...Pictureplane included, who I totally dig. Yacht was half rad. I really like their recordings but live they were a bit arena rocky at times...extended parts, jamming, and a full hired band. I guess that means they are getting pretty big. Nonetheless, the songs that I like best were rad and done well. It was a fun night, a good amount of buds were there and had a good chat with BJ from HEALTH, what up BJ?! Here are some pics. Pictureplane Yacht
SO, I am behind on my posts. So here is the first of three. Went to see Kría Brekkan and Drawlings the other night at Mcworld. Drawlings is the sister of Animal Collective's Avey Tare. She was really good. Haunting Bjork sounding voice with layers of soundscape that was intense yet eerie, She was tall, lanky, wore a torn dress and talked with a sweet natured, almost school girl voice between songs. A cat got on stage for some of her set...funny. Best mellow show I have been to in a while. Here are some pics. Kría Brekkan played too. She used to sing in MUM. She was very similar to Drawlings but unique is her own way. Our bud Nathan from Kid Infinity put it on and it was a success! Nice work Nate!
So, here are some new photos. Thanks to everyone who dig the new songs. We have a bunch more where that came from! Whup whup! Philippe de Sablet...go to his blog over there in my "other things to look at" section.
So, it is St. Patrick's day. On this fine day we have decided to release our new tracks on our Myspace; Gold to Black and Future Beats. Learn the lyrics and come sing-a-long with us next time! If you listen and listen carefully you may be able to see a Leprechaun hiding in a tree. Watch the video to see!
ps Anthony from Mikki and the Mauses says they are opening for some of the Murder City Devils shows in So Cal. Wow!
SO, went to see Jesus Makes a Shotgun Sound the other night with Halloween Swim Team....was too late to see HST but saw JMASS at Echo Curio. Sure, they paint their faces white..but hey..they are pretty damn good! Here are some pics from Sean Carnage last night too...Protect Me played some pretty rad songs and the night was fun fun fun! SO yeah...good times! More soon and a BIG ANNOUNCEMENT tomorrow! BWCW
A couple of pics of us (BWCW) and one of the The So So Glos
