SO, Aaron from Anavan is doing our new record, Es Slash Tee. Anavan is da bomb diggity, you have to see them if you haven't yet. He has been putting a lot of love into it, can't wait!! Oh, we(TPF!) are playing with them this Saturday too in Chinatown!! Come out!
Here is a new one by them!
OH!!!! and this Friday live on KXLU 88.9 and streaming live on internet web cam here.
So, Fol Chen are from Highland Park, right here in LA. It is kinda a hot spot lately and will continue to grow in popularity due to it's location and cheaper rent. There are a couple more bands blowin up from over there, just can't remember right now. Fol Chen just myspaced us, maybe we will play together sometime soon.
FYI, I think cLAy TV may turn into TPF! TV soon, because our album is dropping sometime soon and want to parallel a blog with it, plus I am sick of looking for mediocre, most of the time, videos. Everything will be TPF! related, shows, pics, friends bands, parties, band members personal shit and whatnot. I still will have KYLE, my bro, put up posts about what he has going on with good stuff. I will do videos too, if I like them a bunch, but mainly band stuff. Any objections? Hope not. I feel like most of you regulars here at the channel are just my friends anyway and you would probably be more interested in what I and the band are up to rather than just posting videos. BUT, I have had a bunch of people say that they have found a lot of new great music through cLAy TV, so...... I guess I can keep that up, I will still post albums and videos that are kicking my, or our (TPF!), ass(es) as well as videos that are swaeeet. So there. Comments? Love, Clay Fol Chen: "Cable TV"
SO, we (TPF!) are playing in the 909 tonight, Riverside yall!
Also, videos by Mates of Stste and The Chandeliers. Mates of State have been around for a while now and I have been a fan of the husband and wife combo since their beginnings. I haven't gotten their newest releases but I am sure they are good, it's just hard to compare them to some of their first albums, those albums signified a certain time for me, and that satisfied my MOS appetite. See them at The Fonda on 4/23.
Next, The Chandeliers, don't know much about them except they are from Chicago. I think they will be getting some more love soon.
Mates of State: "Get Better"
The Chandeliers: "Mr. Electric"
And we are playing tonight in the 909. Come out Riverside.
So, Cap'n Jazz was a short-lived, but highly-influential, emo band. The group was formed in Chicago in 1989 by brothers Tim and Mike Kinsella, who were joined by Sam Zurick and Victor Villareal. They were one of the first "emo" bands and, to me, they are still the pinnacle of what "emo" is, was, and will be. Now, there is this new band Algernon Cadwallader that sound JUST LIKE THEM. Still, it's good. Check out the similarity.
Clay and I agree that the Fleet Foxes album was good - but not album of the year material. At least not to our hair-metal-weaned ears. This is a video from Swedish duo, First Aid Kit covering "Tiger Mountain Peasant Song" by Fleet Foxes. I'm not sure how I missed this because it was apparently some sort of phenomenon back in September of last year. At any rate, First Aid Kit were signed to The Knife's label and are putting out their debut soon(ish) on Wichita recordings (Los Campesinos! Bright Eyes). It's a pretty damn gorgeous cover.

So, went to see the Murder City Devils last night at the Fonda. It is a reunion tour that they put together, with just a handful of shows up and down the west coast, to promote their box set...i believe. I have seen them maybe 5-6 times in the past. Mostly in Fargo in the late 90s in small bars. Back then they would have skulls and candles and shit on stage, they would be wearing mostly black clothes, and most of them would be pretty trashed, especially Spencer, the lead singer. Last night was not like then, no candles and skulls, no black clothes...in fact Spencer had on an argyle sweater and collar, no alcoholism present, BUT without all that, they still ruled! People we going nuts!! it was a really nice, like late 20s, early 30s crowd and "mosh pit". People would fall and everyone would help them up, a girl lost her shoe and everyone was clearing the way to look for it, really nice whole-hearted moshing, nothing like Trash Talk last week where kids were swinging looking for contact. It was sold out...people came from all over, we actually had a couple from Germany in front of us just for the show. Pretty fun stuff, but when watching them it did seem a bit dated and I realized how they, and that style, were what was 'hip' back then and is not what is 'hip' right now. Music definitely has changed in the last ten years, but hey, it has that balls out rockiness that will never die, something I'd like too see more of in 'hip' music today.
Here is a old MCD video. Oh, and just for fun the new one by POS, he is part of the Rhymesayers crew from my home state MN! The video is in Minneapolis , reminds me of how cold that shit gets.
SO, check out this shit by The Presets, I could do away with the song but the video is neat because they are dancing like a ballerinas all around L.A. Well, done. On the opposite tip here is another by Here We Go Magic. The video is nothing special, just some grainy images, but I like this song.
SO, never seen this Bowerbirds video for "In Our Talons" before. It's been out for a while I guess, but damn, it's a killer video and song. The other one is from San Diego's Pinback dudes side project, Goblin Cock. It's fun. I like fun. Do you?
Bowerbirds: "In Our Talons"
Goblin Cock: "We’ve Got A Bleeder"
This is where I will be tomorrow night and then on Saturday these two.
I'll try to make up for Clay's lack of a computer and post a little more frequently. I (sort of) missed the School of Seven Bells album last year. I listened to it once in the end-of-the-year rush to listen to everything possible and dismissed it. It keeps coming up on shuffle though and I'm always scrambling to see who it is. It's a grower. There are few duds - but mostly pretty good. Here is their new video for the song "Half Asleep."
SO, my computer is fucked up again. So, posts will be a little less until I get my shit back. Speaking of Fucked Up, i just saw them the other night and I got kicked in the face by a crowd surfer. Good times! Trash Talk also played and I have never seen a bunch of kids gets so nuts. Crazy. So, here are my favs Ponytail in a Laundromat and on my buddy Michael's Videothing as well as a video from one of my favs in hip-hop, MF Doom and Madlibs', Madvillain.
SO, I have been listening to a lot of dance stuff lately. I really dig this dude that Dim Mak has been pushing. He is from Japan and his name is Shinichi Osawa. He rips, the album makes me want to do some E and dance my ass off til the breaka breaka dawn. There are some others I have been liking too like The Proxy, Zomby, and The Twelves. There are a sleugh of others so go over to Dim Mak and see what they are into. It's usually good.
Shinichi Osawa: "Push" (This isn't the best song or video but the other tracks on the album are saweeeeet!)
People going nuts to The Proxy. Check out his Raven EP. Cooool shit.
SO, our label mates over at Modern Sleeze, Halloween Swim Team, have another new video. Check it out. Air France is the second one, I really dig these guys. They made it #23 on cLAy TV's top albums of 08'. The video is just some dude surfing on the east coast it seams, or France, in some choppy ass water. I like it though, shot well, in a all that greyness.
SO, here are two for ya. First, L.A.'s own Electrocute, they haven't played much lately but they will have a new album soon. Actually, they do have one show scheduled on February 13th at Judo Chop in Little Tokyo. Second is Mechanical Hands/Electric Heart from Santa Clarita, they have an amusing video. Check it.
Electrocute:
Mechanical Hands/Electric Heart
PS Probably going to see Gang Gang Dance tonight at The Smell.
PSS We played with our label mates Halloween Swim Team last night at The Viper Room. Funny stuff. Johnny Depp wasn't there, River Phoenix's ghost was.
