TPF! + CSS = Acronyms and Cheap Videos

SO, our guitar player Pepper made this video for TPF!'s (The Press Fire!) new song L.A.V. aka Lesbians on Vacation. Why an "A" and not an "O"? Ask me sometime. Yes, it was cheap, very cheap. Look for the krinkled up piece of paper that open to say TPF! I bet you didn't know Wilshire and Western were Lesbian hot spots. Me neither. CSS (Cansei de Ser Sexy,"I got tired of being sexy") put out a new video for their new album that's coming out soon called Donkey. Yep, Donkey. I like it. Their video also seems cheap. I like cheap videos.

Devendra Banhart + Bloc Party = Nice Videos!

SO, these are quality videos. Natalie Portman is Devendra's GF, she is in the Bollywoodesque video. The Bloc Party song is good, video is nutty. I didn't like it at first but it's growing on me. I have liked both albums they put out a ton so I look forward to the new stuff. Watch and enjoy.

0th is my friend Amanda's new band from SF.

SO, on Sunday my buddy Preston called me and said an old mutual friend was in town playing a show at Echo Curio in 20 minutes. I was at Guitar Center dealing with rock jocks, then I made the dash down Sunset with mee lady and made it just in time. Our friend's name is Amanda, she was in this band called Triangle for a long time, still is. She is a Fargonian, as are most of the awesomest people I know, including Preston. Her new band is called 0th, they played The Smell the night before which I missed. They were....fucking weird, cute, spacey, arty, GOODNESS. At one point the singer was petting her arm pit hair. Here are some pics and an sweet video of her, MNDR on the turntables. Oh, and thanks Preston for the shout, let's go to Gold Room again sometime, but next time let's take the $1 shots. Say sup' to Georgia too.

Ponytail + Foot Village = Possible Smell Show.

SO, I really like the new Ponytail album, Ice Cream Spiritual. It's one of my top 10 this year so far. I am excited to hear that they are playing The Smell on October 10th. It's far away I know. I mailed them about openers, they said Foot Village might and No Age (!) might Abe Vigoda might and we (TPF!) could too, if there is another opening. I am not holding my breath. Oh, not to mention High Places are their tour mates. . SO, if Foot Village can't we are a shoe in. I am sure they won't want to turn this one down though. Speaking of Foot Village, they are locals, I have seen them with Health and PRE. They are pretty damn rad see to see live.

OK, this post officially has the most name drops ever, and they are all from some of my favorite stuff that is out there right now. Ponytail and Foot Village have videos. Check em'!

BTW Some of these bands are being labeled, Tropical Punk, like Abe Vigoda and High Places. I love that genre name!

Oh, and my loyal MN peeps, No Age and Abe Vigoda at the Triple Rock on Monday.

Doing Others' Songs =Good or Bad?

SO, covers and/or sampling is fun right, but sometimes they are just bad. Here are two prime examples.

Good. Girl Talk. He mixes these things so nutty good. And so do the people that spent their time making these.

Girl Talk: "Feed the Animals"

This, my friends, is bad. I think I even liked the Alien Ant Farm version of "Smooth Criminal" better than this shite.

well, it's not so bad, mmmmmm....???? probably better than any other F.O.B. song. he can sing pretty good. whatevs?! let's rip it a new one for fun!!

Nihon No Ongaku: Melt Banana

SO, I haven't done this one in s while. It's called, Nihon No Ongaku (Japanese Music). I am a big fan of avant guard Japanese punk. Melt Banana are the maestros. Seen them three times in Tokyo, they fucking kill live. Here are a couple of their videos. They are not easy to digest, it took me a bit, but try downloading Cell Scape or Bambi's Dillema and crank the shit out of it in your car. Just click on em and get em from free, just for you. Try it, super rad!

Whoa!!!
Melt Banana: "Shoot The Moon"

Melt Banana "Sick Zip Everywhere"(Dumb Video but Fun, like 4 years old)

These vids give no justice, get an album and fucking crank it, you'll get it then,

Fleet Foxes = cLAymation!

SO, does Clayton (me) like Claymation videos. Well, in elementary school they would say, "Are you made of clay and weigh a ton?" I would respond, "Yes." Then I would play some more while making fun or their names, all in good fun of course. Here's lookin' at you Jeremy Pitts, aka Jeremy "Stinky" Pitts (they did), Lee Crumb (always wore Lee jeans and had cookies in his pockets) and Jamie White (She wasn't:) Good times. So, do I like Claymation videos? Yes. DO I like when people call me Gay Clay. No. But no worries, I will think of something for you too.

Fleet Foxes
are good: White Winter Hymnal

Geneva Jacuzzi = Can You Name The Decade!?

SO, local girl Geneva Jacuzzi is/was/will be soooo....mmm...period specific? Whoa, check this video out.

Late of The Pier + Port O'Brien = Water Themed Band Names

SO, UKs Late of the Pier is fun. I like them and their clever videos. clever. I just saw Oak Town's Port Obrien at Spaceland tonight. They were good, pretty darn good, but not great. Plants and Animals show two weeks ago killed, super good. But, P.O.B. has THIS song that is sooooo damn good, they handed out pots and pans to the crowd and people got on stage and everyone got nuts for that one. fun times.

Late Of The Pier: "Heartbeat"

Port O'Brien: "I Woke Up Today" (posted a couple weeks ago, I know, but it's a very nice song)

Shad = Smart Hip Hop

SO, I really don't listen to much hip-hop any more. I think people in the indie/punk/alt etc... world really don't much either. I mean remember starting with NWA, Public Enemy, 2 Live Crew, Slick Rick and the rest of the stuff on YO! MTV Raps, then going onto those early years of Snoop, Dre., and Tupac, then in late high school and college listening to Tribe Called Quest, Black Sheep, and De La Soul, then, as of a couple years ago Kanye, Jay Z, and The Roots. But what lately, Lil Wayne? I guess, but he aint got shit in those other dudes. Well, here is some hope, some smart stuff. Or, maybe it just sounds like older stuff? Whatever, watch it!
Shad: "Brother"

Classixx = Sk8 or Dance!!

So, Classixx are local DJ dudes. Their video is awesome. Starts out with Ray Barbee, who I had the chance to talk with a month ago for while when I saw him chillin on Sawtelle, killin it old school style and it goes on to Tony Hawk, Per Wilender and a cast of hundreds. Paired with some breakin' and some scratchin', Mr. Flash if you will, it completes a radical vid. Oh and the fairy at the end is great too. Not sure if I will be seein' Classixx anytime soon, unless I got o some Blow Up LA event or some shit, but probably not.

Stars + Future Sounds = Here is a story...

SO, these two videos have a story line, I like that in a video, it's keeps me watching. Future Islands are from Baltimore, they are great! We, TPF!, are playing with them on July 29th at The Smell! Come on down. Oh and EAR PWR are playing too, they are from Asheville, NC.

This Stars video is so fun to watch, it's well done. Stars are not my favorite band but they are always pretty solid. They are at the Avalon, October 1st.

CSS + Lil Wayne = It's been too long.

SO, these guys have been off of our radars for a while but they are back and seem to be doing just fine. I am really excited about the new CSS album, I loved the last one. They have good spirit and punk rock souls. This new song sounds like something I would have heard on Alternative Nation in the 90's and/but I dig it. Lil Wayne is such a feisty little dude too, check him out.

OH, and here is a NO AGE video you may not have seen yet, it's rad.
